What should your new custom-made mattress be made of?

by | Mar 5, 2019 | Uncategorised

Choosing what your new custom mattress should be made of is not as straight forward as you think. Various materials can be used and combined. Each material has its own advantages. Which material is used will depend on individual needs and requirements.

Mattresses are often classified by how firm or soft they are. The type of materials used will determine the feel of the mattress, how cool or warm it will be and how long it will last.

At Becks Bedding we only use the highest quality materials, sourced mainly from local Australian suppliers and manufacturers, in the construction of our beds.

Types of mattresses

The main options you have to choose from are:

Open Coil Mattress

Open coil is a standard and traditional type of construction for mattresses. Consisting of a system of interlinked springs, open coil mattresses can be manufactured relatively quickly and easily. They can be lighter than other mattresses so they can be moved easily around the house. Ideal for guests or children who are growing quickly.

Memory Foam Mattress

Memory Foam otherwise known as Visco Elastic foam was invented by NASA around 50 years ago. Memory foam molds to the body in response to heat and pressure, evenly distributing body weight. It is commonly made from polyurethane. A highly durable material, it can provide good support and excellent pressure relief. Mattresses made from Memory Foam are popular with people who need to relieve pressure points.

Latex

Environmentally friendly, latex is a white liquid extracted from rubber trees. Natural latex is dust mite, mildew and mould resistant. It can be the preferred choice for sleepers with sensitive skin or allergies. They are also very supportive.

Pocket Springs

Pocket spring mattresses are constructed from individual metal springs being sewn into individual fabric pockets. The springs operate separately from each other, offering plenty of comfort yet very supportive. The structure of this mattress allows it to breathe, where the mattress stays cool in summer.

Hybrid Mattresses

A hybrid mattress combines inner-springs with latex and/or memory foam. As you would expect hybrids aim to combine the best features of all materials used

In our showroom you can test different types of mattresses, and the materials they are made from, to get a feel for what is right for you.
